I’m going to start sharing each month about some of the favorite books we’ve found, as well as any favorite resources or fun links we’ve enjoyed.
We’ve gotten back into the habit of going to the library again. We were going consistently up until our third kiddo was born. But ever since then it’s been pretty rare. It’s quite a bit of work to get all three boys out of the house! But I’m so glad we’re back to going again. We found some wonderful books this month. I shared about a few of them on Instagram, but wanted to list out all our favorites here. I know I’m always on the lookout for good books to read to the kids!
Here’s some of our favorites from our library haul this month:
Extra Yarn – The boys didn’t care for this book too much, but I loved it. I had some fun doodling along with the book as well.
Sam and Dave Dig a Hole – The boys loved this one. The illustrations are so neat, and I love the little funny details they put in. It wasn’t until we had read it a few times that I realized it was by the same author & illustrator as Extra Yarn. For a week after we got it, they were constantly going outside to dig a big hole in the yard. Of course, since they were using plastic shovels, it never got much deeper than six inches, but it was pretty fun to see them working together on something.
Three Tales of My Father’s Dragon (audiobook version) – I found the audiobook of this one week of several stories from My Father’s Dragon. I’d heard such good things about My Father’s Dragon, I thought it might be fun to try out. When we started listening to it, I didn’t think the boys would enjoy it very much. Sean (3) ended up liking it the most. We listened to it a little at a time, and he kept asking for it. After we listened to it for a while, he pretended that he had a blue dragon following him around for a while. I also requested the full book of My Father’s Dragon from the library to read, so I should get that soon.
Rufus Goes to Sea – This one was Malcolm’s pick, and he really enjoyed this book (he wanted to have it up in bed with him each night). It’s about a silly pig who loves to read and becomes a pirate.
If You Happen to Have a Dinosaur –We all enjoyed this book. The drawing style is so fun, and the boys loved seeing all the silly different types of dinosaurs. I had way too much fun doodling their own dinosaurs in similar style to the book.
Earth Space Moon Base – This was probably the favorite of the month. It was fun to read, and the boys asked for me to read it again and again. There were a couple odd rhymes in it that through off the rhythm while reading, but overall we loved this book. The illustrations were super fun, too. One afternoon the boys and I sat down to draw our own versions of the aliens.
Awesome Dawson – You might remember that we checked this book out before and did a really fun project with it. But the boys asked to check this one out again, and I’m pretty sure it will go on one of their Christmas lists.
Links We’re Loving:
Tim sat down with the boys to watch some awesome videos about space and the International Space Station. He came across this great YouTube channel called Smarter Each Day. He does a lot of science videos. The boys had tons of questions after we watched the videos. Questions like: “Is it dark in space?” “Is there only one Earth?” and “When can I go to space?”
Christmas is coming soon (isn’t that crazy?). Brain Power Boy has a fantastic post on how to save money on Lego. If you have Lego-lovers like we do and are planning on buying some anytime soon, be sure to check out her tips and tricks. I knew about a few of the resources she mentioned, but I learned a ton from her post!
Have you read any good books with your kiddos recently?
