Tutorials and Ideas
Isn’t this felt pirate hat incredible? Can’t wait to follow her instructions and make some for the boys! It looks simple and adorable.
Someone I used to work with put on this incredible Peter Pan Neverland Birthday. It has so many adorable ideas, some fun games, and gorgeous decorations.
Printables
Here is a great pirate printable pack from 3 Dinosaurs. I love that there are multiple grade levels to pick from. Here’s another great pirate printable set, which includes a roll and graph (that’s always Malcolm’s favorite activity from packs like these).
Pirate Books and Shows
Sheep on a Ship – Short, simple, and hilarious, this book is fun to read aloud.
We have the audio version of Magic Tree House Pirates Past Noon. The boys enjoy listening to Annie and Jack’s adventure with pirates! My kids also love the nonfiction Fact Trekker books that go along with the Magic Tree House books.
How to Be a Pirate is the second book of the How to Train Your Dragon series. Tim found an excerpt of the first book, How to Train Your Dragon
, online. It was so good that as soon as we had both finished the excerpt, we went online and bought the first book. Then before we had even finished that book, we ended up ordering the whole How to Train Your Dragon set
. We’ve read the first book aloud to the boys, and have started on the second.
If you’re looking for a simple and fun source for learning to draw piratey this, Ed Emberly’s Big Purple Drawing Book is it! The boys got this as a gift. We love Ed Emberely’s books. It’s a little more complicated than the other books of his we have, but still easy to follow. He has a whole section on drawing pirates and an incredible pirate ship he takes you through step by step to draw.
One of the few kids shows we love is Backyardigans. They have several great pirate episodes, including the first episode of season 1 Backyardigans Pirate Treasure.
