Pixel Art Printable + Connecting with Teens
Time seems like it’s just ticking by faster and faster. Our oldest kids are teenagers and our youngest will turn five this year.
The list of projects we want to do before our oldest becomes an adult seems only to grow. But we’re savoring the time we have, and enjoying what projects and trips we are able to do.
It’s also an interesting transition where some of the printables I created for my kids when they were young, even my youngest is outgrowing (like my pre-writing activities and Robot Alphabet printables). Of course as my kids have grown, so have the range and types of things I’ve created to keep up with their interests and creative ideas – like the Board Game Creation pack
One of my teens has started to get really into Pixel Art:

I created this printable for my oldest because he wanted a way to sketch and plan out some pixel art off the computer, too. (And then I ended up printing a bunch of them, because a few of the other kids wanted to join in, too.) There’s several different sizes and layouts to use.

Pixel Art Resources
Here are some of the tutorials and resources I found for my kids to learn more about creating pixel art:
- Beginner’s Guide to Pixel Art by Saint11 – This is a fantastic resource to help an older kid or teen start delving into pixel art.
- Animated Pixel Art Tutorials by Saint11 – These tackle some more advanced techniques for pixel art & animation. (Just a heads up that there’s a little bit of blood/guts in one of the tutorials, so you may want to preview it first for younger kids.)
- Piskel – Free, online pixel art creator & editor
- There are also a lot of free pixel art apps available for Google Play and Apple – just check reviews first before downloading!
- Pixel art for younger kids – KiwiCo has an awesome pixel art lightbox travel set.
