Papercraft Process + Link Roundup
Here’s a little peek into my papercraft design process. You can see it doesn’t always go perfectly! This is a papercraft cupcake I was working on, and the top ended up being way too flat. So it’s back to Illustrator to make some tweaks. Sometimes it takes a few iterations to get the printables just right.

- Free Classes from MIT – MIT offers a range of completely free classes as part of their OpenCourseWare. If you have a child or student interested in programming, they have an extensive list of courses in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science.
- Practice typing with classic literature – I’ve been looking for a good typing program for our kids, and I stumbled across this amazing site! They have a range of classic literature to practice typing with.
- The Odin Project – It’s hard to overstate how phenomenal this site is. It’s a free, open-source web development curriculum that takes you from knowing absolutely nothing about coding to having a full portfolio of projects and being able to confidently apply for jobs.
And it’s really unique as far as most teaching resources for coding go – it’s project based, and teaches students to think like a programmer rather than just memorize information. I went through Foundations and part of their Ruby on Rails path a few years ago, and learned an incredible amount. One of our teens will be going through this curriculum next school year.
​Small disclaimer – part of this curriculum encourages those learning to use Discord to ask questions, share their projects, and get support. This might not be something parents are comfortable with their teens doing. You are still able to complete the curriculum without participating in the Discord.
