Papercraft Creation Timelapse
Did you know printables & papercrafts were one of the big reasons I started Create in the Chaos back in 2015?
At the time, I really struggled to find decent printables that 1) didn’t use up loads of color ink and 2) were exactly what I was looking for. I already had a good amount of design experience under my belt, and so I started creating papercrafts for my own kids. Over the years, I’ve had so much fun creating printables that not only my own kids have loved using (and still do! I just printed out a bunch of my papercrafts a couple weeks ago for my 7 & 4 year olds, and my 12 year old has been using the board game design pack for one of his new game ideas), but that I also get to share with people like you!
I’m excited to share a little glimpse of my process, and hopefully inspire you to start creating some of your own printables.
Watch Me Make a Papercraft
A couple weeks ago, my daughter asked for a cat mask craft. I added it to my list of crafts to make (a list which is sadly far too long a list, for how little time it feels like I have). But I thought it would be a fun thing to do a timelapse video of me making it to give you a look at my process.
Almost every time I make a papercraft, I start with a sketch. If it’s a complex craft, then I’ll even do a prototype or two. Once I’m happy with the sketch or design, I scan it with my scanner or using my phone into Google Drive.
At the beginning of the video, you can see me import my sketch it into Adobe Illustrator.

And just a note: While I use Adobe Illustrator to design this papercraft, there are actually lots of free tools out there to design printables and papercrafts. I’ll share more about those another time if you’re interested.
